Important Information About Insurance

ASK Psychological Services PLLC is paneled with several insurance companies. If you plan to use your insurance for your services, you will need to provide your insurance information and a signed release for your insurance company. Your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance company. Please be aware that some, and perhaps all, of the services provided may not be covered services under your insurance policy. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company to find out your benefit information including covered services, co-pays, and deductible. Clients will be responsible for services that are not covered by their insurance company and will be be required to keep a credit card on file for associated charges. Clients who accumulate outstanding balances without making payment arrangements may not be rescheduled until their balance has been paid or payment arrangements have been made with the clinician.

If you choose to use insurance benefits, your clinician will be required to assign you a psychiatric diagnosis. If you do not presently meet the diagnostic criteria for a psychiatric diagnosis, your insurance will not deem your treatment medically necessary. In that instance, you will be responsible for the costs associated with your treatment. It is important for you to know that when a diagnosis is submitted to your insurance company, it becomes part of your permanent health care record.

Because insurance companies only pay for services that are medically necessary, forensic assessments are not covered by insurance. This includes mental health assessments that are court-ordered or related to criminal charges, psychosexual assessments, and risk assessments. Psychological evaluations for diagnostic purposes (mental health) may be covered by your insurance in their entirety or partially. Clients will be responsible for any portion of the fees that are not covered by insurance.

Couples counseling is not a service that is considered medically necessary by insurance companies. The exception to this is if one of the parties has a diagnosable mental illness that is negatively impacting the relationship, in which case insurance may cover services for a period of time but typically not ongoing couples work or work unrelated to that diagnosis.
