Clinical Supervision with Dr. Karen Groth

Hi, I’m Dr. Karen Groth! I am so glad you are here. As an Approved Clinical Supervisor, I offer specialized supervision services tailored for graduate students and limited licensed counselors. I have over 17 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings, including private practice, residential treatment, juvenile and criminal justice settings, therapeutic foster care, and psychiatric hospitals. I also have 17 years of undergraduate college teaching experience which afford me the unique ability to understand how students and supervisees learn. I have experience supervising graduate students during internships and practicums, as well as limited and fully licensed clinicians.
Integrative Supervision Approach
My supervision model integrates person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and developmental approaches. This comprehensive framework supports the growth of clinical skills, fosters confidence, and prioritizes client safety.
Collaboration, ethical practice, and cultural competency are at the core of my supervision philosophy. I serve as a teacher, consultant, and counselor, utilizing live observation, co-therapy, and detailed reviews to enhance learning.
Tailored Supervision Sessions
Supervision sessions are designed to fit your schedule, available weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Sessions are generally scheduled for one hour but flexible options may be available. Choose between in-person meetings at my Mount Clemens office or virtual sessions for convenience.
Feedback and Reporting
My supervision model prioritizes comprehensive feedback and evaluation to support the growth of the supervisees. Feedback is based on direct observations, thorough review of documentation, and analysis of audio or video recordings. For those engaged in practicum or internship programs, we adhere to the reporting requirements set by your graduate program or the State Board of Michigan.
Transparent communication and ongoing assessment of the supervisees clinical skills are crucial to professional development. Feedback is tailored to address individual strengths and areas for improvement, fostering a supportive environment for skill enhancement and confidence building. I maintain open channels of communication to ensure that supervisees are well-informed about their progress and any areas needing attention.
As a clinical supervisor, I am committed to the professional growth of of my supervisees and the highest quality care for clients.
